Press Release

Syrian National Coalition
Office of the President

Ahead of President Hadi al Bahra’s meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary and the Core Group of the Friends of Syria, the National Coalition issued the following statement:

“Syrian National Coalition President, Hadi al Bahra arrived in London this evening at the invitation of UK Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond.  Over the next two days, President al Bahra will attend a wide range of meetings, including with Foreign Secretary Hammond, Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening,  officials of the Core Group of the Friends of Syria, Parliamentarians and opinion formers.  The visit comes at a critical moment, as our moderate Syrian forces fight for the values of freedom and democracy against the tyrannies of the Assad dictatorship and the extremist forces of ISIL.

While in London, President al Bahra will seek to build further on the excellent bilateral relationship with the UK. Discussions will focus on improving coordination to defeat ISIL, tackling the root cause of extremism - the Assad regime, including through pursuing new sanctions, and increasing the pressure on the UN to deliver more aid across Syria's borders.

The UK has been a robust supporter of the Syrian National Coalition and the Syrian people. Its contribution of over $1 billion in humanitarian aid as well as practical support to the Syrian opposition saves lives. With the Syrian people's continuous struggle and sacrifices, and help from friends of the Syrian people, including the UK, the democratic future of Syria will be brought about."
