Ahmad al-Jarba, President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, will continue his outreach and engagement with the American public, think tanks, and senior lawmakers. Building upon his fruitful and productive meeting with Secretary of State Kerry and Congressional leadership last week, President al-Jarba is slated to meet with Pentagon officials, the National Security Council staff, and National Security Advisor Rice. President Jarba will also meet with Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Feinstein, Ranking Member Chambliss, Senate Majority Leader McConnel, Senator Durbin, and Senator Marc Rubio.
President al-Jarba will give a speech at Georgetown University Monday May 12 at 6:00pm on the theme of building a new era of strategic cooperation between the United States and the New Syria.
To date, the Syrian Opposition Coalition delegation has met with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, House Foreign Affairs, Senate Armed Services Committee, and House Armed Services Committee leadership and members in addition to House Majority leader Cantor and House Minority Leader Pelosi.
The delegation expressed the Syrian peoples’ gratitude and appreciation of the official invitation by the United States to the Syrian Opposition Coalition and for the generosity of the American people in the provision of humanitarian relief, governance capacity building in the liberated territories, and strategic support to the Free Syrian Army in the struggle against Al Qaeda extremists and the Assad regime.
President al-Jarba and General Bashir, chief of staff of the Free Syrian Army reaffirmed their commitment to preventing Syria from falling into the hands of Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda extremists and to building a foundation of long-term cooperation with the United States.
