After the Security Council’s discussions about the Syrian regime’s recent massacre of over 111 civilians in Douma, Syria, the Special Representative of the Syrian National Coalition to the United Nations, Dr. Najib Ghadbian, said:
"Today the Security Council discussed the massacre of civilians by the Assad regime in Douma. And once again, no concrete action has resulted. Words bring little consolation to the victims. The time for action is now.
"The Syrian people want and need protection from Assad’s deadly barrel bombs. Such protection will only come through the enforcement of a no-fly zone in Syria. It is long overdue.
“Today, on World Humanitarian Day, the Syrian people appeal to the international community to provide the protection that Syrian civilians desperately need. If not the Security Council, then Member States can act. The failure to provide such protection is not only a massive humanitarian betrayal, but it is fuelling extremism that knows no borders. The failure to act is gambling with global security, including that of the United States and Europe. The time for reckless inaction is over.”
