Syrian Coalition Statement on Brahimi Resignation

Special Representative to the UN Dr. Najib Ghadbian made the following statement regarding the resignation of Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi:

"We appreciate Mr. Brahimi's work to try to bring a political settlement to the conflict in Syria. We share his frustration with the Assad regime for not engaging constructively in the political process. The Syrian Coalition remains committed to a political process. But it is clear that the regime will not desist from its brutal military campaign and engage in a political process until it is compelled to do so. That will require concerted international pressure that has so far been lacking. The Syrian Coalition will be discussing options for applying greater pressure on the regime with key allies at the London 11 Core Group Ministerial meeting on May 15."
